The Pillager Family Council food shelf is facing a major setback after a walk-in freezer failure spoiled thousands of dollars’ worth of food. Staff discovered Tuesday morning that the freezer had stopped working. By the time it was found, everything inside had completely thawed and had to be thrown away. Volunteers spent hours hauling out the spoiled food and decontaminating the freezer. The food shelf estimates it lost more than $6,000 in product, including hams, turkeys and more than 370 pounds of ground beef. The organization is asking for financial help to restock its shelves. The Pillager Family Council is accepting cash and check donations.
