Highway Chase And Arrest

A Hitterdal man was arrested Friday morning after authorities say he led a Clay County sheriff’s deputy on a brief chase and then resisted arrest at his home. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy tried to stop a speeding vehicle around 7:45 a.m. Sept. 18 on 90th Avenue North in the Hitterdal area. The driver did not pull over and continued south on Minnesota Highway 32. Deputies say the driver briefly entered a cemetery in Hitterdal before exiting and continuing south on Highway 32, eventually stopping at a residence just south of town. The Sheriff’s Office said the driver, identified as 44 year old Cody Jacobson, of Hitterdal, was uncooperative and tried to run into the home. Clay County deputies and Minnesota State Patrol troopers at the scene stopped him from entering and attempted to take him into custody. Jacobson resisted officers and was eventually restrained, authorities said. During the struggle, Jacobson received a minor cut to his head. A Clay County deputy and a State Patrol trooper also suffered minor injuries. All three were treated at a local hospital. Jacobson is being held at the Clay County Correctional Facility on suspicion of felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, fourth-degree assault on a peace officer, gross misdemeanor obstructing legal process and fourth-degree driving under the influence. The Minnesota State Patrol and Hawley Police Department assisted the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
