House Fire

A garage fire left a Detroit Lakes home with significant damage and killed one dog on Dec. 1. The call came in at 2:58 p.m. When fire crews arrived, they found an attached garage fully engulfed in flames southeast of town. Nobody was home at the time. However there were two dogs inside the garage at the time of the fire. Crews rescued one dog. They found the other after extinguishing the flames. Fire chief Mike Hanson says the fire did not reach the main part of the residence, but the home did receive significant smoke and water damage. The fire was under control within 15 minutes of crews arriving. The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation. Detroit Lakes Fire Department was first on scene, later assisted by Frazee and Audubon fire departments.
