Mobile Home Fire

One person died after a mobile home fire early Sunday morning approximately seven miles north of Bemidji, according to the Bemidji Fire Department. The Bemidji Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1900 block of Town Hall Road at approximately 3:16 a.m. Sunday. Initial reports indicated one occupant had escaped the residence while another remained unaccounted for. Firefighters arrived to find a single-wide mobile home heavily involved in fire. The first-arriving crews attempted to enter the home but were unable to due to fire conditions. Crews launched a defensive attack using a 1¾-inch handline, with a second line deployed as more personnel arrived. Once the fire was brought under control, crews entered the home and located the unaccounted-for occupant, who was found deceased inside. A total of 29 firefighters and 11 pieces of equipment operated at the scene for approximately two hours. The home and its contents are considered a total loss. One civilian was injured; information regarding that person’s condition has not been released. The fire appears to be accidental in nature but remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division. The Bemidji Fire Department was assisted by Bemidji Ambulance Service, the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Beltrami Electric, and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division.
